Crimean Parliament adopts declaration of independence

AKIPRESS.COM - rada The Parliament of Crimea has adopted the declaration of independence, 78 members of the Verkhovna Rada out of 100 voted for its approval, the press service of the Parliament reported on March 11.

The Crimean Parliament refers to the ICJ decision on Kosovo from July 22, 2010 that recognized that the unilateral declaration of independence does not violate any international law.

The Declaration of Independence reads:

1. If Crimean residents on March 16 vote for the accession of Crimea and Sevastopol to Russia as a constituent entity, Crimea will be declared an independent republic after the referendum.

2. Crimea will be a democratic, secular and multinational state.

3. In case of corresponding results of the referendum, Crimea will address Russia to accede to it as a constituent entity.

The declaration was approved by the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea at the extraordinary plenary session on March 11, 2014, signed by the Chairman of the Supreme Council Vladimir Konstantinov.
