Printing of full sized house has been launched in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The project should be finished in three years, The Voice of Russia reported.
In order to fulfill the project, the first full-sized 3D KarmaMaker printer has been used. It creates big plastic walls and out of these walls the rooms are constructed, which later form the full-sized house.
“The building industry is one of the most polluting and inefficient industries out there. With 3D printing, there is zero waste, reduced transportation costs, and everything can be melted down and recycled. This could revolutionize how we make our cities,” Hedwig Heinsman, Dus Architects official, said.
This experiment draw attention of the U.S. President Barack Obama who expressed his desire to have a look at the prototype.
For now, plastic blocks, which are printed with a honeycomb lattice within for reinforcement, are back-filled with lightweight concrete in order to provide structural strength.
If the technology proves to be successful, it could easily change the constructing reality. Firstly, it is more financially efficient, secondly more environmentally friendly. Printer uses bio plastic, which is a mix of the seed oil and microfiber.
