Journalists' 24 hour strike leaves Greece with no news on Tuesday

AKIPRESS.COM - The Journalists’ Union of Greece has announced a 24 hour strike on Tuesday.

The employees in the media sector met on Tuesday noon near the headquarters of the Journalists’ Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers protesting against layoffs and demanding signing new collective agreements.

The boards of the General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) and the Civil Servants Supreme Administrative Council (ADEDY) have called the employees in the public and private sector to participate in the general strike on April 9. They will reportedly demonstrate against the policy of the Greek government and the new measures that afflict their sectors.

The federation of private employees, as well as the unions of teachers and professors have announced that they will participate in the strike.

Problems are expected to arise in the transportation sector as the Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers and the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation will also participate in the strike, the Greekreporter.com reported.
