Vladimir Putin had two separate telephone conversations with UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, the Kremlin reports.
The sides mainly focused on the situation in Ukraine. Speaking with Cameron, the President of Russia noted the paramount importance of a rapid and unconditional implementation of the April 17, 2014 Geneva Statement stipulations by the authorities in Kiev to de-escalate the tensions in the country.
Russia and the United Kingdom agreed that the sharp political standoff can only be resolved by peaceful means and to continue a bilateral exchange of opinions at various levels.
In a conversation with Angela Merkel, the German side made a request to assist Ukraine in releasing the military observers representing a number of European countries, including Germany, who were detained in the southeast of Ukraine.
Vladimir Putin stressed that the most important thing now is to withdraw all military units from the south-eastern parts, stop the violence, and immediately start a national dialogue that would involve all regions and all political forces within the framework of a constitutional reform.
The sides noted the importance of a maximum involvement of the OSCE’s intermediary potential all over Ukraine.
The two leaders agreed to have another telephone conversation shortly.
