Ex-President of Poland Jaruzelski dies

AKIPRESS.COM - 1042288 Poland’s former President Wojciech Jaruzelski has died at the age of 90, AFP said Sunday.

Jaruzelski, who was to turn 91 on July 6, was the last leader of the socialist states of Eastern Europe of the early 1980s.

From 1985 to 1989, he was chairperson of the State Council of the then Polish People’s Republic, the country’s supreme authority.

In 1989, he was elected President of the Republic of Poland. In 1990, he quitted politics.

In the recent years, he has spent much time in hospitals. In early May, he had a blood stroke.
