A team of experts from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has conducted a technical mission to the Kyrgyz Republic on May 19-23 with the purpose to support the Civil Aviation Authorities in the field of aviation safety oversight, the EU Delegation to Kyrgyzstan said.
The EASA is the European Union Agency with regulatory and executive tasks in the field of civil aviation safety.
This experts' mission was financed by the European Union with the purpose to assist the countries subject to operational ban in the preparation of an aviation safety oversight capacity building roadmap. The purpose of the EASA technical cooperation mission was to collect information on the progress made by Kyrgyzstan in addressing the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) safety oversight audit Corrective Action Plan of 2009.
The EASA experts had a number of consultations and work sessions with the civil aviation authorities of the Kyrgyz Republic, members of the Kyrgyz aviation industry and the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic. The report of the EASA mission on the progress made in addressing the ICAO safety oversight audit Corrective Action Plan of 2009 along with the recommendations for the aviation safety oversight roadmap is expected in the coming weeks.
Over the past few years the sector of civil aviation in Kyrgyzstan has undergone some important developments. The European Union welcomes the efforts of the Kyrgyz government and its commitment to reform the present civil aviation oversight system and improve safety. In this context, the European Union is committed to support better compliance with international safety standards whenever possible and has in this perspective mandated the European Aviation Safety Agency to carry out a series of technical assistance missions to support the competent authorities of a number of states, with a view to enhancing safety and addressing the safety concerns.
