Iran, other states may become observers at CSTO parliamentary assembly - Duma Speaker

AKIPRESS.COM - CSTO meeting Iran and a number of countries might become observers at the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) Parliamentary Assembly, State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with members of the assembly’s Council, where the speakers of Afghan and Serbian parliaments are already present in the capacity of observers, reports Itar-Tass.

“We believe that in the long term, that experience may be expanded and representatives from the parliaments of other countries, for instance, Iran, might be invited into the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly,” Naryshkin said.

As he briefed Putin on the just-held meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly, Naryshkin said that among other things it considered a program for improving the regulatory base of collective security.

“Also, we adopted a message to the CSTO peoples and the world public in connection with the forthcoming 70th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. Our countries will never forget the heroic accomplishments of our peoples and they will always honor it and fight attempts at the revival of Nazism, at white-washing its henchmen and at revising the results of the war,” he said.

Also, CSTO representatives considered the question of further coordination of steps by CSTO member-countries at various discussion floors, such as the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
