Memorandum on participation of Oceania nations in Asian Games signed in Ashgabat

AKIPRESS.COM - ashgabat The Organizing Committee of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (Ashgabat, 2017), the Olympic Council of Asia and the National Olympic Committees from the Oceania region signed a Memorandum confirming participation of 17 countries from the Oceania region in the Asian Games in Ashgabat in 2017, reports Turkmenistan.ru.

The Memorandum was signed by the President of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov; President of the Olympic Council of Asia Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, and President of National Olympic Committees of the Oceania region Robin Mitchell.

According to the document, 17 national Olympic committees of the Oceania region will for the first time take part in the Asian Games in 2017, along with other 45 national Olympic committees - members of the OCA.

The program of the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games provides for 19 sports. In his speech before the signing ceremony, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to include two other types of sports in this list – equestrian sport (jumping) and Turkmen national wrestling “Goresh”.
