Beijing and Almaty submit bid to host 2022 Winter Olympics

AKIPRESS.COM - olympics The two cities left in the depleted field for the 2022 Winter Games have submitted their bid files to the International Olympic Committee. according to the media reports. 

Bid leaders from Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan, handed over their documents Tuesday at IOC headquarters in Lausanne, a day ahead of the deadline.

The so-called bid books include details of each city's plans for venues, accommodation, financing, transportation, security and other projects.

Beijing is considered the favourite in a race that began with six candidates but was reduced to two following the withdrawals of Stockholm; Krakow, Poland; Lviv, Ukraine; and Oslo.

An IOC evaluation commission will visit the two finalists in February and March and produce a report assessing the bids. The host city will be selected by the full IOC on July 31 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
