Tunisia hopes to set up free trade zone with Customs Union, EEU

AKIPRESS.COM - Tunisia hopes to create a free trade zone with the Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Tunisian Ambassador in Moscow Ali Gutali told a news conference on Wednesday.

“The Customs Union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan) is a very important structure,” TASS cited the diplomat as saying.

“We also call for creating such zone with the EEU (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia) as well. We already asked for Russia’s official consent on this issue. We hope that we will join this union in the near future.”

As for prospects of Russian-Tunisian partnership, Ali Gutali noted that “Tunisia wants to make cooperation with Russia strategic.” “We are interested in Russian investments,” he noted.

The ambassador noted sweeping prospects for tourism cooperation, particularly after Tunisia had introduced visa-free rules with Russia. “In 2013, more than 300,000 Russians visited Tunisia,” he noted, adding that “we hope tourist inflow will grow.”
