AKIPRESS.COM - Germany defeated 3-0 Uzbekistan in a Group F at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, German media report Thursday.
Germany took a 1-0 advantage into halftime, courtesy of a Marc Stendera free kick, and effectively wrapped up the contest on the hour mark.
After a dull opening 30 minutes the game came alive when German midfielder Stendera scored with a cracking free kick. The Uzbeks committed a foul just outside of the box and Germany made them pay.
Stendera, who scored from the penalty spot against Fiji, delivered a pinpoint free kick, swerving the ball into the right of the net past Uzbek goalkeeper Dilshod Khamraev.
Uzbek goal-scoring opportunities were few and far between with Germany's organised defence doing an excellent job of keeping their attackers quiet.Germany take on Honduras in their final pool game in Christchurch on Sunday while Uzbekistan play Fiji, who stunned Honduras 3-0, in Whangarei.
