India is planning to construct a new complex where fuel for nuclear power plants will be produced, said the spokesperson for the Department of Atomic Energy, Jitendra Singh.
"The government is planning to set up new nuclear fuel complex in the country," Global Security quoted Singh as saying in a written response to one of the members of the country's lower house of parliament.
The country's Nuclear Fuel Complex is establishing a facility to manufacture fuel assemblies required for the four pressurized heavy water reactors located in Kakrapar of Gujarat state and Kota of Rajasthan state, being constructed by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).
Currently, there are 21 nuclear reactors in India. Eight of them use fuel the country produces itself, while the rest use imported uranium fuel from Russia, Uzbekistan, Canada and Kazakhstan.
