Bulgarian town of Koprivshtitsa is to hold a three-day National Folklore Fair, Focus reports.
The tradition of the fair dates back to 1965. The idea of the initiative is connected with presenting the great varieties of the Bulgarian folklore heritage in its most authentic form. Over the years, the fair established a position of a movement for preservation and popularization of the Bulgarian traditional culture.
This year’s edition of the folklore fair will mark the 50th anniversary since its first organization.
The fair is also a candidate for the UNESCO’s Register of Best Safeguarding Practices in the field of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
The fair will take place of August 7, 8 and 9 in the Voyvodenets region. There will be seven stages offered a great variety of performances from 9 am to 6 pm. Every Bulgarian region will present a special program. There will be more than 12,000 performers from all over the country. There will be 790 ensembles and 360 individual participants.
The total length of the major program is 101 hours.
