Mongolia, Japan sign deal for cooperation on Tavan Tolgoi eastern railway project

AKIPRESS.COM - shimizu Mongolia Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Purevsuren and Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia Mr T.Shimizu signed on October 22 a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in Tavan Tolgoi eastern railway project and involving Japan in the project's comprehensive development.

The document was inked on the sidelines of the ongoing working visit of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Mongolia, reports Montsame state news agency.

Tavan Tolgoi is one of the world’s largest untapped coking and thermal coal deposits, located in the Ömnögovi Province in southern Mongolia. It has a total estimated resource of 6.4 billion tonnes, one quarter of which is high quality coking coal.
