TAPI countries agree on gas pipeline consortium

AKIPRESS.COM - pipeline-gas Ashgabat hosted the 23rd meeting of the Steering Committee of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project. It brought together the heads and specialists of industry ministries and departments of the participating countries and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) – the Project Transaction Advisor, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan said.

The focus of the meeting was the harmonization of the sharing and investment agreements between the members of the TAPI Ltd. consortium, led by Turkmengaz State Concern.

The reports on the work done by the project participants and the Transactional Advisor in preparation for the construction of the gas pipeline, which is to be the largest energy route on the Eurasian continent, were presented. The participants discussed and approved the outcomes of the recent meeting of the TAPI Technical Working Group that had harmonized and decided the important issues related to the legal and technical elements necessary for the project acceleration.

In accordance with the feasibility study of the project, the TAPI gas pipeline 1,700 kilometres in length will start from the southeast of Turkmenistan, where the largest gas fields are located, and run through Afghanistan and Pakistan to Fazilka village (India), located on the Pakistani-Indian border. The pipeline has an annual capacity to supply over 30 billion cubic metres.
