'Revenant' becomes big winner at Golden Globe Awards

AKIPRESS.COM - leo Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu's The Revenant was the big winner at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards, winning best picture, best director and best actor for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Accepting his award, DiCaprio called the experience "unfathomable" playing 19th-century frontiersman Hugh Glass, and Iñárritu called it the most difficult movie of his career: "We all in this room know that pain is temporary but the film is forever," USA Today reports.

Director Ridley Scott's The Martian won best musical or comedy motion picture as well as a best actor honor for star Matt Damon at the ceremony Sunday night.

Steve Jobs took home two awards as well: supporting actress for Kate Winslet and best screenplay for Aaron Sorkin.

Room star Brie Larson won the award for best actress in a drama, while Jennifer Lawrence garnered her third Globe award — this time for best actress in a musical or comedy — for Joy, making sure to call out her frequent director, David O. Russell.

Sylvester Stallone also had a big night, winning best supporting actor in a film for reprising his role of Rocky Balboa in Creed.

New TV shows did well at the Golden Globes: USA's Mr. Robot took best drama and supporting actor for Christian Slater, and the Amazon series Mozart in the Jungle won for best comedy, with star Gael Garcia Bernal picking up a best comedy actor honor.

Empire star Taraji P. Henson won her first Globe for best actress in a TV drama. Rachel Bloom won best actress in a TV comedy for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and pop singer and American Horror Story: Hotel star Lady Gaga teared up when accepting her award for best actress in a TV miniseries. Pixar's Inside Out won for best animated feature, Sam Smith's Writing's on the Wall from the Bond film Spectre took best song, and the Hungarian movie Son of Saul won for best foreign film.

Ennio Morricone garnered a win for best original score for The Hateful Eight, and director Quentin Tarantino accepted the Globe for the 87-year-old musician he called his favorite composer.
