AKIPRESS.COM - A Naval Fleet review is a ceremonial and stately inspection of the Naval Warships by the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the Honourable President. The last International Fleet Review held off Mumbai in 2001, was a hugely acclaimed event. Since then, the Honourable President has also reviewed the Indian Naval Fleet in 2006 and 2011. It is indeed a matter of immense pride of the Indian Navy to showcase the International Fleet to the Supreme Commander again in IFR-2016.
The Honourable President of India will review the International Fleet, comprising over 75 frontline ships and submarines off Visakhapatnam on 06 Feb 2016. The Review Anchorage would have an awe inspiring combination of Naval Warships from Indian Navy as well as frontline Navies from across the globe. In addition, the ships of the Indian Coast Guard and Mercantile Marine would be participating.
Themed as United through Oceans, and set to be attended by nearly 50 nations, the four-day event will witness a global participation from 90 ships, including 24 warships and 24 foreign naval chiefs.
The naval exercise aims at fostering international ties to pledge assistance to combat any potential maritime security or humanitarian threats at sea. It is expected to promote cooperation, integrity and interoperability on a global level.
