Death toll from Ankara bombing climbs to 37

AKIPRESS.COM - http://static.ca-news.org/upload/ennews/6/573936.1457934225.m.jpgThe death toll from the Ankara bombing climbed to 37 on Monday after three more people died from their injuries. Sunday’s car bomb attack on the city’s main transport hub was the second major attack in Turkey’s capital in less than a month, according to the media reports.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey had become a target in an unstable region, and pledged success in the fight against terrorism.

The incident came two days after the US embassy had warned citizens of an impending terrorist attack, 22 days after Turkish prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu vowed more aggressive security for the capital, and 25 days after a similar car bomb killed 30 government officials less than 2 km away.

No group claimed immediate responsibility for the latest attack. Suspicion among Turkish officials speaking in private swung immediately to the Kurdistan Worker’s Party, or PKK, a designated terror group, or Isis, which has been blamed for five mass bombings since July 2015 that have killed at least 200 people.
