Mongolia's leading opposition parties to form coalition ahead of elections

AKIPRESS.COM - candidates-MP-talks Mongolia's two leading opposition parties are forming a coalition ahead of June's general elections, the two parties announced on Monday, Xinhua reports.

The Mongolian People's Party (MPP), Mongolia's largest opposition party, and the Mongolian Peoples' Revolutionary Party, have reached agreement after intensive negotiations.

The decision will be submitted for approval by the ruling councils of the two parties on Tuesday, Khurelbaatar Chimed, a lawmaker of MPP, told a press conference.

Analysts expect the ruling councils of both parties to approve it unanimously, believing that the formation of the coalition might be the first step toward a merger of the two parties, both of which are left-wing parties.

The ruling Democratic Party of Mongolia is also seeking to enter coalition with other minor parties ahead of the elections.
