Kremlin: Woman can become Russia’s president

AKIPRESS.COM - 565940.1443696416.mKremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that there were many women already working in the Russian government, ministries and parliament and woman could become the president of Russia, Russian media report.

A woman could be the president of Russia, which is in line with the country's constitution, Sputnik reports Peskov as saying.

"Of course it's possible," Peskov said, answering a question on whether the country could be led by a woman as is the case with Theresa May who assumes the post of British prime minister on Wednesday.

The spokesman noted that there were many women already working in the Russian government, ministries and parliament.

"Women are equally active in all countries," Peskov said.

As David Cameron announced his resignation after the June 23 Brexit vote in the United Kingdom, May became on Monday the only candidate to head the UK Conservative Party and to become the country’s new prime minister after her rival Andrea Leadsom withdrew her candidacy. Cameron is expected to resign on July 13.
