Mongolia’s first IMAX theater opens

AKIPRESS.COM - The opening ceremony of the ‘Urgoo’ IMAX Theater took place on July 22 in Ulaanbaatar. The first film shown at the new cinema was "Star Trek Beyond", which was released worldwide on that day in IMAX format.

At the press conference, John Schreiner, vice president of the IMAX corporation for the Asia-Pacific region, said the “Canadian IMAX company was officially founded in 1967 and the first IMAX 3D film, ‘We Are Born of Stars’, was released in 1985. In 2002, we used the introduction of DMR technology to transform Hollywood films and now produce movies using IMAX cameras. Next year we will celebrate our company’s 50th anniversary. Mongolia has become the 71st country to install an IMAX theatre. We opened the first IMAX cinema (in the Asia-Pacific Region) in Kyrgyzstan last April”.

A standard IMAX screen is 22m×12m and there is currently no more advanced technology than this in the world. The price of adult tickets is MNT 15000 while children tickets cost MNT 12000. The new ‘Urgoo’ IMAX Theater has five screens, one of which is VIP. There are currently 837 IMAX theatres in 77 countries worldwide.
