AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani in Astana on June 8 on the sidelines of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the statement in Mirziyoyev's official website said.

"The customs and traditions of the peoples of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan are similar. Good-neighborly relations have been established between these two states, and they have been cooperating effectively with each other in various areas," the statement said.

Mirziyoyev said Uzbekistan stands for peaceful resolution of Afghan crisis and interested in the stability and economic prosperity in that country.

Ghani, for his part, cherished Uzbekistan’s efforts to help restore stability in Afghanistan and thanked for the help.
