AKIPRESS.COM - The Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan and its projects have taken part at the International scientific-practical conference “25 years of water cooperation in Central Asia: past experience and future challenges” that was held in honour of the 25th anniversary of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (ICWC), the EU Delegation reported.

Among the participants of the conference were the representatives of ministries of agriculture, water and energy resources of Central Asian countries, diplomatic corps, international and regional organizations, expert and educational community.

On the first plenary session, the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, Ambassador Eduards Stiprais gave general information on EU support to the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan and the region, the projects on water resources and environmental protection. He also mentioned the EU support to the transboundary water cooperation in Central Asia.

In general, during two days of the conference different topics were discussed such as water diplomacy in the region, water management, transboundary water cooperation and its further strengthening, the projects of international and regional organizations, water-energy-food-environmental security, integrated water resources management (IWRM), role of youth in the processes, legal and institutional aspects, education and capacity building issues, financial and economic instruments.
