AKIPRESS.COM - Implementation of the project on construction of the Rogun hydropower plant is ongoing and the first unit of the hydro station is planned to be put into operation this year, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Usmonali Usmonzoda told reporters.

According to him, all contractor organizations promise to launch the first unit of the hydro station on time, in other words, this year.

"There are some problems, but we are confident that the order of the leadership of the country on timely implementation of the project will be executed," the Minister noted.

The government of Tajikistan on July 1 concluded an agreement with the Italian company Salini Impregilo on construction of the Rogun HPP. The Tajik side will allocate $3.9 billion for the project.

Later, the Italian company announced it will complete the first stage of work by 2018.

According to preliminary reports, construction of the Rogun HPP will require $4 billion in total. Six units with the capacity of 600 megawatts are planned to the built.
