Mongolia to hold festival of intangible cultural heritage in mid-August

AKIPRESS.COM - Mongolia will hold a festival of intangible cultural heritage called "Nomadic Mongolia" on Aug. 11-15 near Ulaanbaatar, with the aim of preserving traditional culture and customs for the next generation and attracting more tourists, a Mongolian cultural specialist said Thursday.

"The event is expected to bring together the most skilled and unique intangible cultural heritage carriers across Mongolia," Damdindorj Mendsaikhan, a specialist in charge of intangible cultural heritage of the Culture and Arts Authority which is an implementing agency of the Mongolian government, told Xinhua.

"We aim to present the daily lifestyle of the nomadic Mongolians and our intangible cultural heritage and customs to not only foreign tourists but also our younger generation," she said.

Exhibitions of handcrafts, traditional clothing and dairy products, as well as folk art performances will be held during the cultural event.

Mongolia, one of the last nomadic countries in the world, has been striving to attract tourists by organizing cultural events in a bid to diversify its mining-dependent economy.
