Mongolia starts using electric public buses in an effort to improve climate

AKIPRESS.COM - A ribbon cutting ceremony for handing over two electric buses MON-30 took place on October 5, Montsame reports.

Each electric bus is able to carry 34 seated passengers and 100-150 standing passengers and to travel 200 km on a single charge. It will consume electricity worth only MNT 6 million per year while reducing air pollution.

Buses are made in Mongolia by two enterprises at the order of the Government. The Government passed a resolution on introduction of eco-friendly electric buses in public transport of the capital this May and following the resolution the Ministry of Road, Transport Development made an agreement with ‘National Industrial Council’ NGO.

The same day, the two companies handed over some special-purpose buses to their costumers Erdenet Mining Corporation and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports.

Bus parts including air-filter, shock absorber, seats, even rubber seals and so forth were supplied by domestic manufacturers. However, the engine was provided by an American firm.
