Kazakhstan could export about 100,000 tons of barley a year to China

AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan could export about 100,000 tons of barley a year to China after receiving approval from Beijing to become a supplier, Nasdaq reports citing a senior Kazakh official.

China approved imports of Kazakh barley and corn in November. Traders said it would have a limited impact on Kazakhstan's grain business.

"There will be no explosive growth, but I think (export volumes) could be estimated at maybe 100,000 tonnes per season," Deputy Agriculture Minister Arman Yevniyev told Reuters about prospects for potential for supplying barley to China.

China's approval came the same week that Beijing launched an anti-dumping probe into barley imports from Australia, its top supplier of the grain, amid strained ties between the two countries.
