OSCE trains journalists on legal regulation of media on the Internet in Kazakhstan

AKIPRESS.COM - An OSCE-supported seminar on the mechanisms for the legal regulation and digital security of media on the internet took place on 19 April 2019 in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan.

Some 20 journalists and bloggers were familiarized with the national and international media framework, including practical and legislative aspects of media regulation on the Internet.

The event included sessions on access to information, restrictions on freedom of expression, protection of personal data, work with different digital sources of information and fact-checking, and the protection of civil rights in the media field. Together with national experts, the participants examined court cases on hate speech, and instruments of working with the open government database.

The seminar was co-organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Nur-Sultan and the NGO Legal Media Centre. Future seminars will be held in Aktobe in May 2019 and Taldykurgan in June 2019.

The event is a part of the Office’s activities aimed at promoting media freedom and freedom of expression in line with OSCE principles and commitments.
