Thai firm to build 40MW solar plant in Uzbekistan

AKIPRESS.COM - The government of Uzbekistan and Thailand’s Helios Energy Co. have signed an agreement for the construction of a utility-scale solar photovoltaic plant in Namangan, Uzbekistan, Global Construction Review reports.

The agreement with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Innovative Development sees Helios Energy Co. procuring, building and overseeing the installation of a 40MW photovoltaic facility in the city of Namangan’s economic free zone, an area that is undergoing rapid transformation, Helios Energy Co. said in a press release.

Helios Energy was set up by entrepreneur Jeremy Tan, who founded the blockchain data centre, Veritas Mining.

“Solar is the future, and there is great potential for progressive partnerships in this exciting and ambitious region,” Tan told media at a Namangan investment forum in June.

Helios Energy said panels are now heading to Uzbekistan, with construction expected to start in the coming weeks and to be finished by December 2020.
