Hundreds protest against corruption in Bishkek LIVE

AKIPRESS.COM - People are gathering in the Ala-Too square in Bishkek for a peaceful rally to protest against corruption in the country.

Anti-corruption rally came after the journalist investigation by Azattyk, ОССRP and Kloop agencies claiming that $700 million were withdrawn from Kyrgyzstan by businessman Aierken Saimaiti, who reportedly handed over documents to the journalists proving the corruption scheme involving some Kyrgyz officials before his murder. Saimaiti was shot dead at the hotel cafe in Istanbul on November 10 evening.

The rally participants demand from authorities a reaction to the this investigation.

The organizers said about 1000 people attended the rally.

The number of rally participants is more than 500. Some of them carry posters protesting against corruption.

Police officers approached to lawyers of the campaign to explain the decision of the court on restrictions on holding rallies in the area in connection with Kazakh president's visit.

Police officers said the rally participants won't be dispersed. The crowd applauded officers.

Rally participants sang a national anthem of Kyrgyzstan and laid flowers on the monument to the victims of April 2010 revolution. More than 200 gathered.
