Nationwide livestock census kicks off in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - Annual nationwide livestock census of this year started in Mongolia, Montsame reported.

The nationwide livestock census of 2018 found that there are around 66.5 million livestock nationwide, showing an increase of 241.2 thousand heads of livestock compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, there have been some significant changes in the structure of livestock animals. It has been counted in 1970 that there were around 13.3 million heads of sheep and 4.2 million goats. This ratio of sheep and goat were shifted by the time of the 2010s with percentage of goats in the total number of livestock in Mongolia grew from 19.8 percent in 1990 to 40.8 percent as of today.

The livestock census not only take records of the livestock animals, but also conducts a detailed study on herder families across the country.
