Buddha Day to be marked as public holiday in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - The Mongolian Parliament on December 20 approved a bill on amendments to Law on Public Holidays, submitted by Parliament members last August, Montsame reported.

The amendment states to celebrate the Buddha day or the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha, which falls on the 15th of the first month of summer each year, according to Buddhist calendar, as a public holiday. In 2020, the Buddha Purnima will be on June 5.

During the discussion, parliament members pointed out that the Buddha Day should be celebrated as a day to encourage compassion, empathy and kindness and promote love for mother nature, parents and family.
