Kazakh PM meets CEO of the OneWeb communications company

AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin on February 5 met with Chief Executive Officer of the British internet satellite company OneWeb Adrián Steckel, the press service of the PM reported.

The sides discussed implementation of the project on all-round coverage of the territory of Kazakhstan by high-speed Internet, including remote and hard to reach areas of the country via communication satellite.

Steckel told about readiness of the company to launch 34 satellites from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on February 7. The satellites will become a part of the operator's global network and be launched by Arianespace.

A total of 8 launches of satellites are planned from Baikonur this year. A full launch of the satellite network and service on the territory of the country is expected at the end of 2020.

At the end of January, OneWeb signed a cooperation agreement with the Astana International Financial Centre concerning development of the broadband satellite network in Kazakhstan, as well as the launch of a hub to provide services from OneWeb across Central Asia.
