UN High Commissioner for Human Rights praises Mongolia’s efforts

AKIPRESS.COM - The 43rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council was held in Geneva, Switzerland on February 24, Montsame reported.

In her speech about the human rights developments around the world, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said, “In Mongolia, the initiative to develop a comprehensive human rights defenders law, together with civil society, is inspiring, and I look forward to its early presentation to Parliament,”

“I also welcome Parliament’s approval last month of legislation establishing an independent National Preventive Mechanism under the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia,” she added.

A Mongolian delegate to the session delivered remarks in connection with the High Commissioner’s speech.
