Turkmenistan reportedly bans gathering of more than 200 guests for wedding to stem coronavirus

AKIPRESS.COM - Authorities of Ashgabat have imposed restrictions on the number of guests at weddings and visitors at cafes as one of the measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, according to the Chronicles of Turkmenistan news agency.

Starting from last week no more than 200 people can be invited for family celebrations such as weddings, anniversaries and birthday parties and no more than 6 visitors per table can be served in cafes and restaurants.

Such restrictions have been introduced for the first time. Despite the fact that many cafes and restaurants announced that they will be only providing food delivery only, they do accommodate visitors. For instance, “Melbourne” café still remains very popular. The cafes which are located in Ashgabat’s shopping centres are still open.

It has not been reported how the municipal authorities will keep track on the number of guests at the weddings and what punishment is envisaged for those who violate the restrictions. One of the district police officers assumed that before the festive event they will be obliged to count the chairs.
