27,229 Mongolians brought home from abroad since COVID-19 outbreak

AKIPRESS.COM - Repatriation of Mongolian nationals stranded abroad started since January 17 or after Mongolia imposed border restrictions due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, said Director General of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs L.Munkhtushig.

To date, 27,229 citizens have been brought home, of which 21,092 citizens were repatriated from 93 foreign countries on 111 charter flights. Whereas, 6,637 citizens arrived Mongolia through road transportation from Russia and China, Montsame reports.

This month, four charter flights were arranged according to the decision of the State Emergency Commission, bringing 542 citizens home. No more flights will be conducted this month or until the beginning of 2021.

We are receiving requests from citizens who wish to return home through our embassies. As of today, about 2,000 citizens have submitted requests. Most of them or about 1,500 are currently residing in South Korea”.
