Over 209,000 Mongolians get first COVID-19 vaccine shot

AKIPRESS.COM - 209,278 people in Mongolia have received the first shot of vaccine against COIVD-19 so far, including 205,844 people in Ulaanbaatar city and 3,434 people – mine workers in Umnugobi aimag.

On March 22, around 11,280 people, including employees of essential organizations and businesses and people aged 50-64, are scheduled to receive the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Some 732 healthcare workers are working at 40 vaccination sites across the capital city to administer the vaccines, Montsame reports.

Currently Mongolia has received a total of 474,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 164,000 doses of AstraZeneca via Indian assistance and COVAX Facility, 300,00 doses of Sinopharm (Verocell) vaccine from China and 10,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine from Russia.

The second dose of AstraZeneca vaccine will be administered 8 weeks after the first dose or around April 21, and of Sinopharm and Sputnik-V will start being given from April 10.

Accelerating the vaccination rollout in the country, which is covering not less than 10,000-15,000 people daily since February 23, more vaccines supplies will arrive from abroad in coming weeks and more than 30,000 people will be vaccinated each day, reports the Press Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Ts.Ganzorig.

According to him, 25,740 doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive by the end of March. And Mongolia is planning to receive 300,000 doses of AztraZeneca vaccine, 300,000 doses of Sputnik-V vaccine and 900,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine by early April and another 97,600 doses of AztraZeneca vaccine by the end of April, which are sufficient for fully vaccinating more than 800,000 people.

As a result, over one million of population in Ulaanbaatar will receive the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines by May 22, and the second doses will be completed administering to the one million people by June 20.
