Mongolian President receives WB Country Manager

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Mongolia Ukhnaa Khurelsukh met with World Bank Country Manager Andrei Mikhnev.

Mikhnev underscored that the Government of Mongolia is working effectively to vaccinate the majority of its adult population, protect the health of the citizens, and revive the economy during this difficult time of the pandemic, Montsame reports.

President Khurelsukh noted that the USD 1.3 billion concessional funding provided by the World Bank in the past has made a valuable contribution to many sectors since Mongolia's social and economic transition. He thanked the World Bank Group for providing more than USD 120 million, including USD 50.7 million for immunizations, to support Mongolia’s effort to fight the pandemic.

The two sides expressed their readiness to work together to maintain macroeconomic stability, reduce poverty, lay the foundation for a green and inclusive economy, improve the business and investment environment, promote agriculture, crop production, animal husbandry, and tackle environmental degradation and climate change.

The sides also exchanged views on intensifying governance reforms at all levels of the public and private sectors, drastically reducing corruption, accelerating cooperation in education, health, urban planning, banking, finance, and energy, and discussed the possibilities of implementing specific projects for people with disabilities.

At the end of the meeting, Minkhnev expressed support and cooperation for Mongolia's implementation of fundamental social and economic reforms under the concept of from welfare to labor, from mining to processing, and from import to export. He also stressed that the policy issues mentioned by the President are in line with the policy priorities (Partnership Strategy) for cooperation with Mongolia for 2021-2025 which was approved last May.
