
AKIPRESS.COM - India has delivered 2.5 tons of medical aid and winter clothing to Afghanistan as part of its fifth batch of humanitarian aid to the crisis-stricken country. Spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry (MEA) tweeted, “Continuing our special partnership with the Afghan people, India today delivered 2.5 tons of medical aid and a fifth consignment of winter clothing to Afghanistan,” Asian Lite reported.
India has repeatedly expressed its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. India is also planning to send food grains to Afghanistan very soon.
The fourth batch of medical assistance consisting of three tons of essential life-saving medicines was sent to Afghanistan last month. It was handed over to the Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kabul on January 28.
India had earlier supplied 500,000 doses of COVID vaccine and 1.6 tons of medical assistance to Afghanistan through World Health Organization (WHO).
In the first tranche of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after its takeover by the Taliban, India had sent medical supplies on December 11 last year.
Earlier on Saturday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met members of the Sikh and Hindu delegation from Afghanistan and assured the community of continued cooperation in resolving all issues and difficulties in the future.
Welcoming the delegation, the Prime Minister said that they were not guests but in their own home, adding that India was their home. He spoke about the assistance provided by the government to bring them safely to India.
