
AKIPRESS.COM - A two-day international conference dedicated to the diversification of transport and transit cooperation in the Eurasian space began its work in Ashgabat on July 18, Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reported.
Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan jointly with the ES "Turkmen Forum" organized the forum. Representatives of ministries and departments, members of diplomatic missions, international transport and forwarding companies, logistics organizations, as well as representatives of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the USAID Central Asia Program attended the event.
The program of the conference, organized both in a traditional format and online, included a plenary session "Post-pandemic recovery of the transport and logistics sector: new challenges and opportunities" and three working sessions - "Digitalization of the transport and communications complex. A look into the future”, “Environmental aspects of sustainable transport. The role of public-private partnership in the development of green infrastructure”, “The role of science and education in the development of the transport and communication complex”.
Participants discussed state of the transport services world market, the geography and dynamics of cargo flows, the efficiency and competitiveness of transport modes, the role of road and air transport in the efficiency of Turkmenistan in Eurasian integration.
The forum also hosted the third meeting of the Ashgabat Agreement working committee, which establishes an international transport and transit corridor between Iran, Qatar, Oman, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The first working meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) on transport corridors Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran and Tajikistan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Turkey also took place during the forum.
On July 19, the International Conference will work as a specialized session. Participants will discuss the role of science and education in the transport and communication complex development, and building up international cooperation in these areas.
