Archival photo: Men wrestle with belts in 1940s

AKIPRESS.COM - The archival service under the Ministry of Digital Development shared a photo from the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents of Kyrgyzstan.

The photo shows the national belt wrestling at the Ulpot collective farm.

The photograph dates from 1940, or 82 years ago.

Alysh is a national belt wrestling of the Kyrgyz people with a fixed grip on the belt. Both men and women can fight. The alysh is divided into freestyle (technical actions with legs are allowed) and classical style (technical actions with legs are prohibited).

The history of belt wrestling "Alysh" has roots in the distant past. This wrestling type is one of the ancient sports games of the Kyrgyz.
