EU plans to support developing Trans-Caspian International Transport Route

AKIPRESS.COM - High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell during his meeting with Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tileuberdi in Astana on Thursday said that the EU could participate in developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), Interfax reported.

"Given the current global political situation, we stressed the importance of further development of international transport routes to support the operation of the global supply chain. In particular, we discussed the possibility of supporting development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route by the European Union," Tileuberdi said at a press conference.

During the talks, the sides also focused on measures to prevent any adverse impact of the EU sanctions on Kazakhstan's economy, according to the Kazakh foreign minister.

The TITR is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor.
