AKIPRESS.COM - UNFPA and USAID work with the government and partners in Turkmenistan to develop comprehensive mechanisms and systems to empower women and promote gender equality, UN press service reported.

With the strategic support from UNFPA, Turkmenistan's government has been implementing the 2021-2025 National Action Plan for Gender Equality (NAPGE), which outlines practical steps to ensure gender equality in Turkmenistan. Among other solutions, this includes support to build capacity of national institutions and professionals on ways to address gender equality issues.

"USAID joins efforts with UNFPA in a long-standing commitment to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and to promote gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. This TOT builds on recent efforts of the two agencies and the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan to promote family values, gender equality and to help young couples to form and maintain strong and healthy family relationships," USAID Country Representative to Turkmenistan Nino Nadiradze said.

Representatives of Civil Registration Offices (CROs) and local CSOs in Ashgabat city, Lebap and Mary velayats will start providing training and advise young couples about creating healthy families to promote positive social and family norms, reproductive rights, and the prevention of gender-based violence.
