Emergency situation declared in three more districts of Western Kazakhstan region due to floods

AKIPRESS.COM - Active anti-flood measures continue in Western Kazakhstan region. A local natural emergency mode has been declared in three more districts of the region, the Department of Emergency Situations of the region reported.

"Emergency situation of a local natural scale has been declared by the decision of the heads of Uralsk city, Chingirlau district, Burlin district and Baiterek district. The republican and regional operational headquarters are functioning, including representatives of Kazakhavtodor and Kazvodkhoz," the message posted on the website of the Ministry of Emergency Situations says.

It was reported earlier that Uralsk declared a natural emergency in connection with the spring flood, vlast.kz reported.

According to the city administration, the flow of melt water began on March 12 due to the sharp warming and rapid snowmelt, as well as due to the thickness of the snow cover, but the throughput of the pipes was not enough to cope with a large volume of water.

The basement of an eight-story building on Murat Monkeluly Street was flooded. To prevent an electrical short circuit, power supply to 990 subscribers was cut off and the heating systems on the upper floors were turned off.

In addition, the water supply pressure in Zachagan village was reduced for 70,000 subscribers due to the overflow of sewerage systems with melt water.

About 4,000 bags of inert materials have been laid in hazardous areas, and more than 25,000 cubic meters of water have been pumped out.

More than 800 people of the rescue units of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, local executive bodies, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, including additionally attracted forces and means of the Ministry of Emergency Situations from Atyrau and Mangystau regions, are involved in the rescue and urgent work. More than 200 pieces of equipment and more than 100 water-pumping devices are used in operational work.
