Kuwait pitches for stronger anti-terror measures at India-chaired SCO meeting

AKIPRESS.COM - Kuwait participated in an international conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in New Delhi on March 23-24, as part of the groupings outreach to certain Gulf Cooperation Council states under the Chairmanship of India, The Economic Times reported.

Kuwait’s ambassador to India, Jasim Ibrahim Al-Najem, while participating in the conference, advocated strong anti-terrorist measures. During his speech at the session titled “Reconnect for stability: ensuring the secure re-emergence of Eurasia”, Ambassador Jassim said that the SCO has made a great contribution to this.

The participants of the conference noted that SCO is an important platform for regional cooperation in the Eurasian continent and also to achieve peace, stability, development and prosperity of the member-countries.

Emphasizing on expanding security cooperation, building a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture to eliminate the threat of terrorism, separatism and extremism, the participants in the conference called for all efforts to enhance the spirit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and maintain security and stability in the Eurasia region.

Al-Najem emphasized the need to work with the concerned parties. He also pointed out that the inclusion of some of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as dialogue partners in the SCO reflects the growing importance of the SCO, which will play a greater role in developing cooperation among Asian countries.

Al-Najem highlighted Kuwait’s role in combating terrorist groups. He added that Kuwait has supported continued efforts with international and regional groups to help the Afghan people meet their basic needs through its participation with the global coalition to defeat extremist organizations.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is the world’s largest regional organization in terms of area and population, which aims to build a multi-centred world order.
