Mongolia arrests fugitive corrupt ex-official in Philippines

AKIPRESS.COM - Former Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Badamzhunai Tunzhin was brought to Mongolia from the Philippines. His name was included in the list of persons wanted by Interpol and subject to deportation to their homeland.

The group that went to the Philippines to arrest him included Minister of Justice Nyambaatar Khishgee, Deputy Head of the Anti-Corruption Agency Azzhargal Gavaasuren, and Chief of the Criminal Police Service, Lieutenant Colonel Sukhbold.

Badamzhunai was a defendant in a corruption case. He left the country through the port of Zamyn-Uud in 2018, when he was not yet under investigation.

The former official is under investigation for corruption. Badamzhunai has now been arrested as a suspect and further action will be taken against him in accordance with the law.
