Population of Kazakhstan exceeds 19.8 million

AKIPRESS.COM - The population of Kazakhstan grew by 43,400 people, or 0.22%, in the first two months of 2023. The country's population reached 19,808,000 by March 1, the Bureau of National Statistics said.

Most of all, the population grew in the capital (by 0.62%), in Mangistau region (by 0.49%), in Almaty (by 0.42%), in Shymkent (by 0.35%) and in Atyrau region (by 0.32%).

The population of Astana reached 1,362,900 people, of Almaty 2,170,900, of Shymkent 1,196,100.

In general, population growth was noted in January-February in 16 regions of Kazakhstan. A decrease in population was noted in Abai, Eastern Kazakhstan, Kostanai and Northern Kazakhstan regions.

The urban population of the country in January increased by 0.28% to 12,242,000 people, the rural population by only 0.13% to 7,567,000 people. The share of the urban population in Kazakhstan is 61.8%, the share of the rural population is 38.2%.
