62 schools to be built in Kazakhstan with money from corrupt officials

AKIPRESS.COM - 62 schools will be built in Kazakhstan with money from corrupt officials. Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev signed a corresponding decree, Zakon.kz reports.

Funds seized in corruption criminal cases are sent to the Education Infrastructure Support Fund. About 120 billion tenge ($269.5 million) have been accumulated on a special account, which will be used for the construction and repair of schools.

It is planned to build 62 schools and additional buildings to existing ones. It is planned to allocate 96 billion 495 million tenge ($216.7 million) for their construction.

10 schools for 7,425 places will be built in Astana, 10 schools for 11,550 places in Almaty region, 9 schools for 2,050 places in Turkestan region, 6 schools for 2,850 places in Jambyl region, 5 schools for 2,175 places in Kyzylorda region, 4 schools for 4,800 places in Mangistau region, 2 schools for 600 places in Akmola region, 3 schools for 620 places in Aktobe region, 2 schools for 1,200 places in Atyrau region, 2 schools for 900 places in Eastern Kazakhstan region, 2 schools for 708 places in Western Kazakhstan region, 2 schools for 1,080 places in Kostanai region, 2 schools for 900 places in Northern Kazakhstan region, 1 school for 1,200 places in Jetisu region, 1 school for 200 places in Ulytau region, and 1 school for 312 places in Pavlodar region.

Minister of Education Gani Beisembaev announced in early March that more than 70 schools were to be built with money seized from corrupt officials and received by the Education Infrastructure Support Fund this year.
