Life in Rural Kyrgyzstan: Resident of Kochkor breeds peacocks at his yard

AKIPRESS.COM - Janybek Uzagaliev, a resident of the village of Ara-Kol, Kochkor district, Naryn region, has been breeding peacocks for two years.

Peacocks hold great significance in India and their popularity is rising in Kyrgyzstan. Uzagaliev procured two female peacocks, a male, and five chicks from a market in Sokuluk district, Chui region.

Driven by their captivating beauty, Janybek finds peacocks to be exceptional additions to the domestic birds. They require less feed compared to turkeys and chickens while laying fewer eggs. The chicks hatch within 30 to 34 days, emerging robust rather than feeble like turkeys. Peacocks' diet includes barley, wheat, and worms.

The growing demand for peacocks has motivated Janybek to expand their population. Currently, his yard has more than 15 peacocks. The value of a male peacock increases with age, making it a sought-after purchase ranging from $100 to $500.
