
AKIPRESS.COM - Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations Enkhbold Vorshilov addressed the high-level plenary meeting to commemorate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons held on September 26, on the margins of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Montsame reports.
Permanent Representative Enkhbold emphasized that Mongolia's nuclear-weapon-free status is making a significant contribution to international efforts to disarm, prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, and the complete elimination. He stressed that establishing nuclear-weapon-free zones is the most effective way to completely eliminate nuclear weapons.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly Dennis Francis, and representatives of UN member states attended the high-level plenary meeting.
The International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons has been observed annually since 2014. The event is aimed at enhancing public awareness and education about the threat posed to humanity by nuclear weapons and the necessity for their total elimination.
